about About Katrina
When Katrina Stone set her pen to paper to begin writing the first track off of Spellbound, she had no idea where it would take her. 5 years and several shows later, she has finished that album that was so many triumphs and defeats in the making. The Colorado-based singer/songwriter always had an affinity to be an artist, as evidenced in her early classical training through steady diet of vocal powerhouses Kelly Clarkson, Ingrid Michaelson, and Sara Bareilles. Couple those influences with Stones own powerhouse pipes and lyrical vulnerability, and shes become one of the most unique and inventive acts of tomorrow. Aside from these diverse elements of seasoning, Stones been a veteran in the industry, from singing on the Warped Tour to performing on TV and radio. But this latest effort raises the tunesmith up to an even more elite dimension, from the ability to express herself with truly personal abandon to a cutting edge approach on the projects sonic landscape. This album was 5 years in the making, she admits, with a mixture of confidence and a continuous desire to evolve in her craft. I began writing some of these for fun in order to craft my own skills in the studio. When I had about 40 songs, I decided that it was time to release the best. In a way, this is like a greatest hits album that no one has ever heard."Aside from her own exploration, Stone is quick to point out her collaborators at her home states Bakery Studios, particularly producer Brad Nyght. One thing I have learned is that you have to trust your producer and be on the same page, she continues. After nine years of working together on and off, we know each others styles and strengths." Another notable producer and engineer on this project is Steve Parker, who recorded and mixed 10 of the tracks on the album. "What I love about working with Steve is that he isn't just an engineer, he is a musician and a writer and a vocalist. He can give phenomenal input and jump in on any part that needs filling out," exclaims Stone. But more than merely the music, Stone wants to listeners everywhere to feel a soundtrack quality to her album that moves them to the core. "I want people to make memories to my music. Whether it is roadtrips or rainy days or renovating their first house, I want people to feel something amazing when they listen." That they shall.
